Demanding road repairs, villagers boycott elections

April 5: The residents of first ward Kalamane Road in Jalsoor gram panchayat and Yalachithaya Nagara Colony residents in Ujire gram panchayat have decided to boycott the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Five families in ward number 1 of Kalamane Road in Jalsoor said that they boycott the election as the governments has failed to fulfill their demand of constructing a proper road in the area for the last 30 years.
Resident Suresh Kalamane said that they had been demanding a 500-metre long road, but nothing was done. Tahsildar Kunhi Ahmed visited them on Friday and convinced them that their demand for road will be fulfilled after the election. Even then the residents stated that thy have decided to boycott the election till their demand is met.
