Failure of Underground Drainage in Mangalore Creates Chaos in MCC Meeting: Read to Know

The Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) council meeting chaired by mayor Jayanand Anchan witnessed chaos over the failure of the underground drainage (UGD) functioning in the city. Issues related to the non-functioning of wet wells and overflowing manholes were discussed at the meeting.

UGD issues in Bunder and Kandathpalli have remained unsolved. The sewage from the Kudroli wet well is released into open drains. Wet wells are not functioning properly, and manholes are not maintained. Houses in Ekkur, Ujjodi and surrounding areas are unable to link their sewer lines to the main pipelines of the UGD, and in some of the areas, sewage is entering the houses. Owing to the overflowing sewage, 10 wells have been polluted, and residents of 150 houses and students of a school have been inconvenienced.
