Good News For Saree Lovers: Exhibition & Sale of Handloom Sarees Begins at Udupi Krishna Mutt
A fortnight-long exhibition-cum-sale of handloom sarees to mark the tri-centenary birth anniversary celebrations of Queen Ahalyabai Holkar started at Sri Krishna Mutt in Udupi on Monday, January 1. The exhibition was inaugurated by Udupi Paryaya Puthige Mutt Seer Sugunendra Tirtha Swami. The exhibition will be on till January 15.
The Maheshwari Sarees, said to have been woven by a women weavers’ collective organised by the late rajmaatha of Indore about 250 years ago. Along with Maheshwari sarees, the famous Udupi handloom sarees, the Ilkal, Kolkata, Venkatagiri, Madhubani, Bihar Kasoothi, Sujani, Dharwad Kasoothi, Tasar Silk Cotton of Jharkhand, Pochampalli, Malabari Silk, Mysore Crape Silk and other handloom sarees from different regions were on display and sale at the venue.
