Gram Panchayats in Dakshina Kannada Initiated a New Campaign to Identify People Who Litter in Public Places

The gram panchayats in Dakshina Kannada district have initiated a new campaign aimed at identifying those who litter in public areas. A task force, comprising officials and elected representatives within the gram panchayat, has started operations to inspect waste heaps for identifying information such as names or addresses found on courier/post covers, bills, or any other documents. Once an address is identified, officials visit the houses of the violator to impose a fine.

On the first day of the initiative, the Neermarga gram panchayat managed to uncover details of nine individuals who had disposed of plastic bags filled with waste in public spaces within the village. There is a task force dedicated to maintain cleanliness in the gram panchayat limits. During their search at these black spots, the team discovered electricity bills, online purchase receipts, insurance policy documents, bank deposit slips, and other documents. This helped the gram panchayat identify the individuals responsible for littering in public areas.

Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat CEO Anandh K has issued circulars to all executive officers in the district, instructing them to form special task forces dedicated to cleanliness at the village level.
