Green building bylaw policy to be implemented in Mangalore: Minister U T Khader

June 25: District In-charge Minister U T Khader said that the Department for Urban Development has come up with a draft for the green building bylaw policy to be implemented in the state.
The green building police will focus on the implementation of a solar power system, rainwater harvesting, planting of saplings, among other methods, along with laying the guidelines. Along with this Sustainable solid waste management, sustainability of building materials, fire protection and safety requirements are features of the policy.
Minister Khader stated that the committee is headed by the principal secretary to the Urban Development Department who finalised the draft policy which is one of its kind. He even mentioned that the government will soon pass an order on this and approve the policy. A panel of experts has come up with the guidelines, he added.
Under this policy the powers will be delegated to the authorities of the urban local bodies to ensure appropriate action against violators. In Mangalore, the City Corporation and the Urban Development Authority will be competent authorities.
