Implementation of New Traffic Fines: Whooping Amount of Fine Collected in Mangalore

September 12: After implementing the new motor vehicles act 2019 having higher fines for traffic violations, Mangalore traffic police have registered s many as 1635 cases and collected whooping fine of Rs 3.9 lakhs.
Mangalore City Police Commissioner P S Harsha said that 1,635 cases were booked in just three days out of which highest number of cases were for not wearing helmet, not wearing seat belts and also against motorists for jumping signals.
He said that out of 1635 cases, highest violations-476 cases were reported in Mangalore North Traffic Division collecting fine amount of Rs 1,09,500, while East Traffic Station registered 430 cases and levied a penalty of Rs 1, 24,500. The South Traffic station registered 373 cases and imposed a penalty of Rs 71,900, and West Traffic Station registered 356 cases and collected penalty of Rs 86,900.
At the same time, emission centres, insurance agents and the RTO office is witnessing a huge rush of people, who want to ensure that their papers are up to date.
