Is Congress Responsible for Water Tariff Hike in Mangalore? This is What You Must Know

November 5: Mangalore South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath during a press meet at the BJP district office on Monday, November 4 said that Congress is responsible for hike in water tariff in the Mangalore City Corporation limits.

MLA Kamath said that water tariff in the Corporation limits was hiked on June 21, 2019, to be brought into effect from April 01, 2019 by Corporation Administrative Officer Mohammed Nazeer during the tenure of the Congress – JD(S) coalition government in the state. The limit of domestic usage of water was decreased from 24,000 litre to 8,000 litre a month. The Corporation has not made any effort to recover the pending water bills worth over lakhs of rupees.
The MLA accused the Congress of postponing the water tariff hike so that the administrative officer could take the decision of hiking the tariff at the end of the council’s tenure and therefore the water bills were not issued to the public for five months.
