Items worth Rs 1.65 crore seized during illegal sand mining

May 4: An illegal sand mining racket being which was being operated on the  backwaters of river Netravati at Padu village has been raided by the police on Friday, May 3. Sand and machinery costing over Rs 1.65 crore was seized during the raid. The Bantwal police team led by ASP Saidulu Adavath on receiving a tip off and raided the spot while the dredging work was taking place.
The team of illegal mining fled the spot leaving on the arrival of the police behind the sand and machinery which was being used for sand mining.  Three tipper lorries, two Hitachi dredging machines, a generator, a unit used to filter sand and 35 loads of illegally extracted sand was seized by the police.  The total cost of the items seized is estimated to be around Rs 1.65 crore.
