Leopard captured in Udupi district: Locals relieved

April 7: Several locals from Heskethur in Udupi district complained to the state Forest Department regarding a leopard which had been terrorising the region for weeks now. The state Forest Department managed to capture the leopard on Friday.  The leapord was captured by rangers at Heskethur village and later released into the Mookambika Wildlife Sanctuary.
The 6-year-old male leopard entered the cattle shed of a local which was chased away. A calf was attacked the next day and a herd of goats on Thursday. These instances made the villagers approach forest department officials. A trap cage was set up with a dog as a bait in a separate compartment to lure the leopard.
