Lifeline of Dakshina Kannada district is in bad state: Warns Environmental activist Dinesh Holla

May 27: Sahyadri Samrakshana Sanchaya Convener and a passionate trekker Dinesh Holla during his recent trekking expeditions in Western Ghats saw the disturbing state of inadequate flow of water in the tributaries of River Nethravathi.

He stated that River Nethravathi, the lifeline of Dakshina Kannada district is in a very bad state as the tributaries of River like Aniyoor river, emerging from Balurgudde near Kottigehara in Charmadi Ghat and Kempuhole, emerging from Kaginere had dried up.

He mentioned that the slow death of tributaries is due to the Yettinahole river diversion project which began four years ago.  He said that the razing of hills for the Yettinahole project and the destruction of grasslands in Shola forests by setting them on fire have resulted in massive soil erosion, landslides and floods.
