Man attempts proxy vote: Gets arrested

April 19: A man attempted to cast a vote in the name of another man who is working abroad. Mohammed Shafi, a resident of Kalladka, in Golthamajalu has been arrested by the Police as he had come to exercise franchise in the name of Majeed Rehman using the latter’s Aadhaar card at polling booth 177 in Bantwal.
Agent Jayaram Gowda informed the polling official on the fake identity of the person. Presiding officer Venkappa Gowda filed a complaint. Case is registered under IPC section 171d and 419. Two more persons have allegedly attempted casting proxy vote in the same polling booth.
