Man opted to challenge vote but complaint proved false

April 19: A voter opted to challenge vote under the rule 49MA of RP Act. Veerendra Lancy D’Souza, a residnet of Yellur near Padubidiri alleged that the paper slip generated by the VVPAT showed the name and symbol of a candidate other than the one he had voted for.
A a written declaration was obtained from him by the Presiding Officer on the veracity of the allegation. His complaint was however proved false and thus the presiding officer filed a complaint accusing the voter in question of falsely claiming that his vote went to a wrong candidate/party.
Udupi Superintendent of Police Nisha James said that the Padubidri police are waiting for the court’s permission to register a case and arrest him.
