Mangalore Amateur Radio Club Has Set up Temporary Radio Stations at St Mary’s Island: Know More
Mangalore Amateur Radio Club (MARC) has set up temporary radio stations on the picturesque St Mary’s Island as part of the National Field Day Contest of the Amateur Radio Society of India (ARSI) to be held on Jan 27 and 28. MARC has collaborated with NITK’s System for Emergency Assistance, Response, and Communication Hub(SEARCH), NITK’s Amateur Radio Club Station (VU2REC) and MIT Manipal Ham Club (VU2MHC).
The stations will operate continuously until the afternoon of Jan 28 and tourists, visitors and emergency relief providing personnel can avail themselves the opportunity to witness and understand the set-up through demonstrations that will be conducted on the site during these days. This exercise, where stations are operated by a team of operators, amidst a location, where no ready-made facilities such as power or shelter is available serves as a significant exercise for the amateur radio operator and other emergency relief volunteers to familiarize, train and renew their ability to set up and operate an emergency communication set-up at short notice and with minimal support facilities.
