Mangalore City is Unlikely to Face Drinking Water Crisis This Summer Says Mayor Sudheer Shetty Kannur

Mangalore City Mayor Sudheer Shetty Kannur said that Mangalore City Corporation’s dam at Thumbe has a maximum water of six-meter height stored in it and with sufficient inflow, the city is unlikely to face a drinking water crisis this summer. The dam across Nethravati River at Thumbe has maximum water in it on Tuesday and the AMR dam on the upstream also has sufficient water stored in it. The AMR dam roughly has about 5.9 meters of water stored in it.

Additionally, the new dam at Adyar on the downstream of Thumbe dam also has water in it. MCC has been making all preparations to ensure that the city does not face a water shortage crisis. MCC has already installed pumpsets to pump water back to Thumbe dam from downstream if the water level reduces. An average of 160 MLD of water is being pumped from the Thumbe dam for supply in Mangalore City, Ullal, Mulki and a few nearby villages. Officials have been conducting drives to disconnect all illegal water connections from MCC’s pipeline between Thumbe and Mangalore. All illegal commercial water connections will be disconnected immediately.
