Alarming: Mangalore has water for just Seven Days

May 29: The water level at Thumbay vented dam built to supply drinking water to the city is only 2.95 meters as of now. If water is pumped on a daily basis, it would be sufficient to meet the requirement of citizens only for eight more days.
The situation is serious because there is no inflow of water into the dam since the last several weeks and this has caused anxiety among the citizens. Water pumping to the city was stopped at 6 am on May 28 and would be resumed on June 1. Once water supply is resumed, it would be able to sustain for only one cycle of four days.
The water level at Thumbay dam goes down by 15 cm whenever water pumping is on and for four days, water level goes down by 60 cm. As per this detail, the current water held in the dam might suffice for eight days.
The situation will turn critical if the rainfall does not occur here as there are no alternative plans to supply water to the city.
