Mangalore International Airport Sees Growth of 17.1%in 2024 Compared to 2023: Read to Know
The Mangalore International Airport (MIA) has experienced substantial expansion in passenger numbers and air traffic movement (ATM) during the calendar year 2024 compared to 2023.
The airport processed 22,57,621 passengers in 2024, showing a considerable rise from 19,27,466 passengers in 2023, demonstrating a 17.1% annual increase. December 2024 set a new record, with 2,06,410 passengers since the commencement of commercial operations on Oct 31, 2020, exceeding the earlier peak of 2,02,892 recorded in Oct 2024. The scheduled commercial ATM at MIA also saw a substantial increase. In 2024, the airport handled 16,416 ATMs, compared to 13,860 ATMs in 2023, reflecting a growth of 18.4%. Even the general aviation traffic grew by 6.2% in 2024 compared to 2023, with the airport handling 340 chartered flights in 2024 as against 319 handled in 2023.
For the first nine months of the financial year 2024-25 (April to December 2024), MIA handled a total of 17,28,686 passengers, compared to 14,89,861 passengers in the same period of the financial year 2023-24. This represents a growth of 16%. The number of domestic travellers increased by 16.8% in the first nine months of the financial year 2024-25, with 11,98,535 passengers compared to 10,26,088 in the same period of FY 2023-24. International travel also saw an increase of 14.3%, with 5,30,151 passengers travelling in the first nine months of FY 2024-25 compared to 4,63,773 in the same period of FY 2023-24.
The ATM for the first nine months of FY 2024-25 also showed significant growth. MIA handled 12,116 ATM, a 16%increase from the 10,448 ATMs handled in the same period of FY 2023-24.
