Mangalore Likely to Face Water Shortage Soon: Only 50 Days of Stock Left in The Vented Dam

The current stock of water in Thumbe vented dam is enough to cater only for next 50 days. The inflow of water at the dam, which supplies water to the city, has reduced considerably. If it does not rain by the end of April, there will be an acute shortage of water in the city. If the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) and the citizens do not take any precautionary measures, the city will face the acute water shortage.

As an immediate measure, the MCC has stopped water supply to new industries and building construction work. Instructions have been given to ration water to the currently running industries.

Mangalore city mayor Jayanand Anchan said that if it does not rain, by the end of the month of March, water rationing will be done in the city. The public is requested to reduce the usage of water for gardens, building work, and cleaning of vehicles. Even for household use, only a limited quantity needs to be used, he added.
