Mangalore police have issued a strong warning against the spread of fake news, misleading posts, and provocative messages on social media, which may have disturb communal harmony and law and order in the district over the past three months. Police noted that miscreants, including educated individuals and organizers, have been involved in such acts, bringing disrepute to the district. The police highlighted several recent cases.
Police stressed that deliberate attempts to spread half-truths, suppress facts, and circulate false narratives threaten peace and harmony in the district. Superintendent of police Dr Arun K has appealed to the public not to believe or react to such news without verification and urged citizens to confirm the authenticity of posts before sharing them. Police also requested media professionals to play an active role in exposing miscreants and cautioning the public about such disruptive elements.
