Mangalore roads witnessed artificial floods due to heavy rain
June 14: Heavy rains that lashed Mangalore city for last two days led to flooding of roads especially in low-lying areas due to poor maintenance of drains Even though the Mangalore City Corporation and the district administration had taken precautionary measures including desilting of major stormwater drains, low-lying areas are inundated, forcing people to wade through water.
KS Rao Road, Sharavu Temple Road, Mallikatta Road and Ambedkar Circle< Balmatta, Pumpwell Circle were some of the areas that witnessed artificial flooding due to lack of stormwater drains.
City police commissioner Sandeep Patil, inspected water- logged areas in the city and that said traffic police are working round-the-clock to ensure smooth traffic flow. He even mentioned that staff have been deployed to remove fallen trees and poles with assistance from the fire department.
