Mangalore Traffic Police to Tackle Nanthoor Traffic Chaos After A Detailed Study Soon: Much Needed

Nanthoor Circle, which is one of the prominent entry points into Mangalore city – has been witnessing unusual traffic gridlocks almost every day. During traffic jams, which are usually a couple of hours from 8am and evening from 5 pm, the road witnesses half a kilometre queues on the stretch.

Traffic police mentioned that the traffic chaos at this Junction is due to traffic flow from Padil side towards Nanthoor instead of Mahaveer Circle as the old National Highway stretch between Mahaveer Circle (Pumpwell) and Padil, is getting a makeover to widen the stretch. The Pumpwell – Padil stretch was denotified by the NHAI after a new four lane highway connecting the city was opened via Nanthoor. The 2.8km stretch is being concretised and currently work is going on one side. Vehicles from Puttur, B C Road, including heavy vehicles, are moving via Nanthoor to avoid getting stuck in the traffic.

ACP (Traffic) Geetha Kulkarni said it would take time to streamline traffic since the vehicle flow has to be studied in detail to initiate corrective measures. She also said that operationalising the traffic signals at the junction is also on the cards, but only after detailed study, which would take time due to the highly complicated flow of traffic from all directions, especially from KPT Junction and from Kulshekar and Padil sides.
