Mangaloreans Can Now Use This Technology to Trace Lost/Stolen Mobile Phones: Check Out

The Mangalore City police has adopted a new technology as part of its citizen-centric initiatives. DG and IGP Praveen Sood on Sunday launched a WhatsApp chatbot for registration of lost/stolen mobile phones and a QR-code based feedback system.

City police commissioner Kuldeep Kumar R Jain said that the government has already introduced the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) Portal, ceir.gov.in, of the Department of Telecommunications (DOT). Till date, 757 requests have been lodged and more than 200 phones have been traced and 120 phones have been returned to the owner. To make this initiative more effective and to trace more lost mobile phones and hand them over to the rightful owners, a whatsApp number 8277949183 has been launched. Just by sending a ‘Hi’ msg on the mentioned WhatsApp number, the public will receive a message and details submitted will reach the city police office (back end). The details will be uploaded on the CEIR. There is no need to visit the police stations. Mobile phones lost about two years ago can also be traced, but it is important to have the IMEI number.
