Manipal Group observes Founder’s Day

May 2: Manipal Group of Institutions observed Founders’ day on Tuesday as it was the 121st birth anniversary of late Dr T M A Pai. The day began with singing of Bhajans at the amphitheatre in Madhava Vihar and later several programmes were held in the university to remember the man who developed a barren hill into an education hub.
Certificates of freeship were given to seven students for outstanding performance in the Manipal Entrance Test 2018, certificates of merit-cum-means were presented to eight students for their performance in the entrance test, certificates of freeship were given away to four students for their outstanding performance in NEET 2018 and certificates of merit-cum-means was handed over to one student for doing well in NEET 2018. The MAHE innovation awards, certificates and cash were given to 21 students. Kundapur Mohan and Latha Bhandarkars Merit-cum-means-scholarships were given to four students and two PhD scholars. Kadambi Scholarships for Excellence in Sports and Academics were given to Govardhan Shenoy K of MIT and Rachana Kotian of KMC, Manipal. Sharada M Pai and Dr Padma Rao Memorial Award for Best Nursing and Anganwadi Service were given to Leela, an Anganwadi worker from Kaup and Jayanti C Aithal Nurse, KH. Geetha K Nayak Memorial Award for Senior Nurses went to Sulatha S S and Sandhya Kini both K H Manipal.
During the programme, Dr M Laxman Pai, former vice principal of KMC Mangalore, spoke about his experiences while working with Dr Pai from 1961. Pejawar Adhokshaja Mutt seer Vishwesha Theertha Swami spoke about Dr Pai.
