MCC Directs All Commercial Establishments to Maintain Logbooks on Plastic Use
Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) has directed all commercial establishments to maintain logbooks on use of single-use plastic on their premises in order to make the coastal city free from plastic.
MCC commissioner Anand CL said that plastic manufacturers, retailers, shops, e-commerce companies, footpath vendors and other commercial establishments, including shopping malls and hospitals, have been asked to stop using single-use plastic. Those who continue to use single-use plastic, which has been banned since 2022, will be liable to pay a penalty of up to Rs 20,000 and may lose their trade license.
Further, special emphasis should be given to the ‘reduce, reuse and recycle’ campaign to ensure a plastic-free city in future, he said.
