MCC Launches Drive to Check Illegal Water Connections Between Thumbe and Mangalore City

Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) has launched a drive to check illegal water connections between Thumbe and Mangalore city. The city corporation has also been facing technical snags at the pumping house at its dam in Thumbe village of Bantwal taluk. People have been complaining about the lack of water supply in several areas. Following this, mayor Jayanand Anchan, MCC commissioner Akshy Sridhar, chief whip of MCC council Premanand Shetty and engineers discussed measures to be taken to solve the water shortage in the city.

The drive to check illegal water supply connections has commenced on the stretch from MCC’s dam at Thumbe, to Mangalore city. The drive started by the MCC has got a good initial response. The quantity of water being pumped to the city saw an increase of about 2MGD, after the drive. The illegal connections were terminated. There are more such illegal connections along the 18MGD pipeline, that need to be disconnected.

Meanwhile, there was a technical snag related to the power supply at the water pumping unit at the dam in Thumbe. The technical issue will be solved jointly by the MCC and Mescom soon. Mayor Jayanand Anchan said that steps are being taken to ensure uninterrupted water supply to the city.
