MCC Plans These Measures to Prevent Accidental Fire at Waste Dumping Yard in Mangalore: Click to Know

The Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) will soon take up measures to prevent accidental fire that occurs during peak summer every year at the waste dump yard of Mangalore city.  Mayor Sudheer Shetty, visited the waste dump yard at Pachanady on Tuesday, December 5.

The Mayor informed that pipelines will be laid to supply water in large quantities to douse fire in the area. In addition to it, sprinklers will also be fitted in the yard and the work will begin soon. The work on pipeline and sprinklers will be taken up for Rs 40 lakh.
The mayor said two borewells have already been dug in the dump yard area and the water can be supplied in case of any fire mishap.

The city generates nearly 350 tonnes of wet waste every day and it reaches the waste management unit of the MCC at Pachanady. In addition, 180 tonnes of dry waste also reaches the dumping yard thrice a week. The wet waste is converted into manure through hermiculture/black soldier fly (BSF) technology.
