Meter Baddi: Action to be taken against Illegal Money lenders

May 1: During the monthly SC/ST grievances meeting which was held in Mangalore at the City Police Commissioner’s office on Sunday April 28, the SC/ST leaders urged the police to initiate action against those illegal money lenders who charge exorbitant interest, which is colloquially called ‘meter baddi’. They said that with money and muscle power, money lenders threaten the innocents who had availed of loans.
A case where a person named Santhosh, who had borrowed money, attempted to commit suicide when a money lender started threatening him. A case was registered at Bunder police station. DCP (Crime and Traffic) Lakshmi Ganesh K said that the police officers will probe into the case. He even stated that strict action will be initiated against those who are indulging in ‘meter baddi’.
