The monsoon is set to intensify across Karnataka from Thursday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued rain alerts for more than 20 districts. Rain alerts have been issued for Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada, Udupi, Kodagu, Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Chamarajanagar, Chikkaballapur, Belagavi, Bidar, Dharwad, Haveri, Kalaburagi, Koppal, Raichur, Vijayapura, Yadagir, and Ballari.
Continuous rainfall in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada districts has raised alarms. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Uttara Kannada and Kodagu, warning of heavy rains accompanied by thunder and strong winds. According to IMD forecasts, the monsoon has already entered the state ahead of its usual schedule, and has raised concerns about flooding and landslides, especially in coastal regions.
The IMD has urged residents across affected districts to stay alert and take necessary precautions as heavy monsoon showers are likely to continue in the coming days.
