The Udupi district administration has banned movement of heavy vehicles on the Agumbe Ghat on Malpe-Tirthahalli National Highway 169A from June 15 to September 30 during the Monsoon.
Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate K. Vidyakumari stated that there were possibilities of land slips owing to heavy rain coupled with movement of heavy vehicles. As such, only light motor vehicles would be permitted to ply through the Ghat during the period. Heavy vehicles plying between Udupi/ Karkala and Tirthahalli may take the Kundapura-Siddapura-Masthikatte-Tirthahalli route.
