Movement of heavy vehicles on Kuloor bridge banned: These may be the consequences!

June 7: Action Committee Against Surathkal Toll Gate has also decided to protest against the proposed ban on the movement of heavy vehicles on Old Kuloor Bridge, which is on National Highway-66. District administration has directed to ban the movement of heavy vehicles on Kuloor Bridge.
After the ban, the heavy vehicles will have to take alternative routes. Due to this the one-way bridge next to the old bridge will be converted to accommodate two-way traffic for other vehicles. Even though the National Highway Authority of India(NHAI) has plans to construct a new bridge with six lanes, the work on this project has not yet commenced.
Action committee convener Muneer Katipalla said that the district  administration has taken a decision to ban the movement of heavy vehicles without making alternative arrangements. muneer Katipalla mentioned that if this is implemented, the flow of vehicles increase on the one-way bridge will increase which may lead to it may lead to accidents and traffic snarls. this will cause a lot of inconvenience to the passersby.
He stated that even though a report has suggested for the demolition of the old bridge no arrangements have been made to construct a new bridge. He said that the movement of heavy vehicles should not be banned on the on the old bridge till a new bridge is constructed. He has suggested the District administration to take up temporary repair works scientifically on the old bridge, till a new bridge is built.
He stated that the action committee will stage a protest if if the movement of vehicles is banned on the old bridge without making alternative arrangements.
