MRPL Gets First Consignment From ONGC’s Newly Explored Crude Oil in Krishna Godavari Basin
ONGC’s recently discovered crude oil from the Krishna Godavari Basin. The first consignment arrived at Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL). This novel crude, known as KG 98/2, was transported to Mangalore aboard the vessel Swarna Sindhu, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 2nd.
The exploration efforts in the Krishna Godavari basin were made possible through ONGC’s investment of Rs 30,000 crore in deep and ultra-deep field explorations, overcoming natural and technical challenges. Expected to peak at 45,000 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) and 10 million standard cubic meters (SCM) per day of natural gas, this production underscores ONGC’s commitment and technical prowess in enhancing the nation’s energy self-reliance. This crude oil represents a 7% increase in India’s potential crude oil and natural gas production at its zenith, demonstrating the ONGC Group’s dedication to bolstering the country’s energy security.
