Music License Made Mandatory For Pubs & Lounges in Mangalore in Order to Play Loud Music
Mangalore police has made it mandatory for pubs and lounges to procure a ‘Music Licence’ in order to be able to entertain guests with foot-stomping loud music, both recorded or live. Mangalore City Police Commissioner N Shashi Kumar mentioned that regular music will be allowed only after a music licence has been obtained.
This has left stakeholders worried as the number of visitors at these entertainment hotspots has declined drastically after implementation of the new rule. Owners and managers of pubs, bars and lounges in Mangalore said that, police issued a notice on February 12, directing all places playing live or recorded music for their guests to first obtain a ‘Music Licence’ from the competent authority.
Police sources said the new rule was imposed after a visit by Alok Kumar, the additional director general of police, when a social activist complained that pubs were not adhering to music rules and were also indulging in illegal activities.
