New Floating Bridge at Malpe Beach Finally Opens For Public

The new floating bridge set up at Malpe beach was inaugurated on December 25, Sunday by Udupi MLA K Raghupathi Bhat. Former minister Pramod Madhwaraj, Udupi SP Akshay Machindra, Malpe Beach  leaseholder Sudesh Shetty and others were present. The sturdiness of the bridge was inspected by the experts from Kerala and Karnataka following which the district administration has allowed to open it for public use.

The 120 meter long and 3.5 meter wide bridge  has a railing system on either sides and 100 people can use this bridge at a time. There will be 15 life guards on duty and also a boat at one end of the  bridge in the event of emergency. All those using the floating bridge will have to mandatorily wear life jackets.

The previous floating bridge was damaged within three days of it opening for the public due to adverse weather conditions seven months ago.
