Police to take action against fish-truck owners: Click to know why?

May 8: Police  Commissioner Sandeep Patil said that the fish-laden trucks, discharging fish waste water on the roads by ignoring complaints about the rotten smile will henceforth be penalised. Commissioner Patil has decided to initiate action against fish-truck owners violating the guidelines laid down by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) in its order dated July 2, 2015. He said that a meeting was held with transporters carrying fish and police have already served notices to them with instructions to follow the guidelines.
As per the guidelines, all vehicles carrying fishes should be made leak-proof. Fish should be carried in crates to prevent spillage of ice. A spill from the crates should be collected in waste water tanks of adequate size fitted in the lorry. The vehicle carrying one-ton fish should be fitted with a 50-litre capacity tank. If the truck driver is found discharging waste water on the road  for the for the first time a fine of Rs 5,000 will be slapped on the lorry owner and if caught for the second time, the vehicle will be seized.
