Police Vehicles Targetted by Some People After Implementing New Traffic Fines: Know What Happened

September 13: Mangalore City Police have started to enforce the traffic fines as per the new motor vehicles act 2019. Following this, some people have targeted police by spreading rumours that police and other government vehicles are running without insurance.
Few rumour mongers checked details about the police vehicles on Parivahan, a website of the ministry of road transport and highways. The website has details of only the first insurance whereas the further renewals are not updated. These rumour mongers took this as violation of traffic rules and criticised the police on social media platforms.
Mangalore City Police Commissioner who noticed this, quickly clarified on the same and mentioned that all government vehicles are insured by the Karnataka Government Insurance Department (KGID) but this information is not available on Parivahan website.
Some people had shared details of a police motorbike which was registered in 2010, and the Parivahan website shows that insurance hasn’t been renewed since 2011. Commissioner Harsha presented the current insurance copy and said that the insurance of the vehicle is upto date.
