Projects Worth Rs 4,750 Crore to be Completed by March 2025 in Mangalore: Thanks to MLA Vedavyas Kamath

Mangalore City South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath said that the city has received Rs 4,750 crore through various schemes of the central and state governments, after he became the MLA. Though most of the projects taken up could not be completed due to Covid-19 and excessive rain, MLA Kamath said that all development projects taken up for the city through Mangalore Smart City Limited (MSCL), Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) and the government will be completed by March 2025.

The Jalisiri Project, which is aimed at providing 24×7 drinking water to the city, advanced technology is being used to build a new water supply network. The project being implemented at an estimated cost of Rs 792 crore will have several advanced features, including the water leakage sensors. It identifies the spot where water is leaking and also finds illegal water supply connections, he said. Rs 49 crore will be released by the Maritime Board and state government to commence the third phase of the fisheries port in Mangalore. Dredging work will be taken up at a cost of Rs 29 crore, to facilitate the movement of huge boats to the fisheries port.

As part of the river water tourism initiative, a barge will be introduced from river Nethravathi to Kuloor. The barge can be used for ferrying people as well as vehicles. The housing project, initiated jointly under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) and a state government fund at Shaktinagar, has received clearance from the ministry of environment and forest and climate change (MoEF), the MLA said. The foundation for the project, which is aimed at constructing 930 houses, will be laid in February. The estimated cost of the project, which was planned at Rs 61 crore in 2018, will see an increase, and is pegged at Rs 100 crore, due to escalation in cost of raw materials and GST. The government will also release Rs 10 lakh, to provide basic infrastructure in the project area.
