July 19: Members of the Women India Movement staged a protest in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Mangalore against drug mafia and exploitation of women.
Women India Movement district unit president Nasriya Bellare addressed the protesters and said that drug addiction cases are increasing in Dakshina Kannada as the drugs are easily available for the youth near prestigious colleges.  She mentioned that youth are being easy targets for drug addiction due to which there has been an increase in sexual assault and crime cases.
She even said that a special police team should be constituted to check drug mafia Police personnel should initiate stringent action against drug peddlers, and thereby put an end to drug mafia.
The members of the Women India Movement later submitted a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil.
