Rape-murder accused who escaped from police custody arrested
April 1: Rape-murder accused Hanumanthappa Basappa Kambali who had escaped from police custody while being escorted to Hiriyadka jail has been arrested by Udupi police on Monday.
He had been arrested March 9 in connection with the abduction, sexual assault and murder of a 17-year-old minor in Shivalli.
He was successful in giving a slip to police on Sunday while being escorted to Hiriyadka jail. Acting on a tip off by local residents who informed that Hanumanthappa was having tea in a hotel in Hiriyadka, police succeeded in arresting him.
