Relax the poll code to tackle drought and water crisis: MLC Ivan D’Souza

May 7: MLC Ivan D’Souza has urged the Election Commission (EC) to relax the model code of conduct in the state in the wake of water crisis and drought. Speaking to mediapersons on Monday, Ivan D’souza said that the relaxation of the model code of conduct will enable the ministers and the official machinery to take steps prevent drought. He sadi that the ministers should be allowed to conduct meetings to assess the utilisation of funds released by the state government to districts.
D’Souza urged the Mangalore City Corporation to take care of the evaporation of water from Thumbe dam. He even urged the deputy commissioner to take measures for dredging in Thumbe dam so that the accumulated sand is removed and the water storage level is increased.
He stated that the district administration has made preparations to face monsoon as seven stormwater drains have been constructed near the airport to facilitate the easy flow of water.
