Retired tahsildar pays fine of Rs 20,000 for taking a bribe of Rs 2,000: Imprisoned for a year
June 17: The third district additional and session court has sentence retired Bantwal tahsildar T N Narayana Rao to to one year imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 20,000 on him for taking a bribe of Rs 2,000.
In 2012 Rao was caught red-handed and booked by Lokayukta officials for taking a bribe to transfer gun ownership from complainant Satish Prabhu.
Satish Prabhu approached Rao for transfer of gun ownership from his father to his name.
The complainant had approached Rao for transfer of gun ownership from his father to his name. Rao demanded a bribe of Rs 3,000 for the same. Prabhu approached the Lokayukta and a trap was laid to catch him red-handed. A Lokayukta team led by Dilip Kumar caught Rao while accepting Rs 2,000 from Prabhu.
The judge declared Rao guilty under the Prevention of Corruption Act and sentenced him to two years and three months simple imprisonment and a fine of Rs 20,000. The sentences will run concurrently.
