Rule for Government Schools in Dakshina Kannada relaxed

July 5: The department of public instruction in Dakshina Kannada district get a ray of hope as they were in a fix over an official move to limit  admissions to government English medium schools to 30.
Few schools in DK had already admitted students in excess and the issue may now be resolved soon, after the intervention of elected representatives. 43 schools have admitted 1,648 students, out of which 23 schools have admitted more than 30 students.
Admissions were already done in Dakshina Kannada before the circular on restricting intake to 30 students was issued. After issuing the circular, officials who strove to shift these extra students to the Kannada medium, faced the ire of parents. Even though few schools have shifted students to the Kannada-medium, many were not willing to do so. The government has also sought indent to supply books and other school materials to the children admitted, which is a positive sign that the students will be retained in English medium.
The government stated that it did not act as per the circular as the schools in Dakshina Kannada have ample number of teachers and that the quality of teaching can be maintained.
