Sand mining in CRZ areas need permission: Tenders invited

April 25: Deputy Commissioner Hephsiba Rani Korlapati said that tenders for sand mining in non-CRZ areas would be invited at the earliest. The relaxation in tender conditions, permitted by the screening committee headed by chief secretary, will be implemented during the pre and post tendering stages. Sand mining in CRZ areas needed permission from the Karnataka Coastal Zonal Management Authority (KCZMA).
Korlapati while responding to a query on impending water crisis in the district, said that a meeting has been called on Thursday to review the water crisis.The officials have been directed to submit a proposal for de-silting Baje reservoir and other canals, rivers, ponds, which are the source of drinking water. She said that the work will begin soon.
