Street Vendors Not Happy With The Vending Zones Given by MCC: Read to Know The Reason
The Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) has established a vending zone for street vendors, who were vacated from streets of Mangalore city during the Operation Tiger drives. The MCC has allocated places for 93 street vendors near the State Bank bus stand.
However, the Dakshina Kannada District Street Vendors Association of the CITU has alleged the site lacked facilities, and the location was poor for carrying out business and has been demanding that their members should be allowed to continue operations in their original spots on Maidan Road, Lady Goschen Road, Central Market, and Hampankatta.
Association honorary president Imthiyaz BK said that the vending zone identified by the MCC for 93 street vendors is not suitable for fruit vendors. The city corporation should not take any decision without taking street vendors into confidence. The MCC should conduct a survey of street vendors and a new town vending committee should be formed in the city corporation. The city corporation should create vending zones scientifically, and the same should be customer-friendly. He also stated that Street food sellers in the city should be allowed to continue their business until the proposed dedicated food streets are opened at Lady Hill, Kankanady, Kadri, and Pumpwell Circle.
