Student Police Cadet Programme: 71 Schools From Dakshina Kannada & Udupi Selected

Student Police Cadet is in implementation in schools throughout the country. In total, 71 schools from Dakshina Kannada (DK) & Udupi are selected for the scheme in the current year. In DK, 2,068 students and in Udupi 1,056 students will get trained.

The selected schools will be given Rs 50,000 for the expenses of training. Students of eighth and ninth grade are eligible to be trained under this scheme. Selected students will be trained on three Saturdays in a month after school hours. Selected students will be trained on the role of police department in society, social issues, road safety, first aid, rain and safety of children, handling of natural calamity, yoga practice and functioning style of police stations. The training is given with the active cooperation of police, education department BEO and school headmaster or headmistress.

The Student Police Cadet is the brain child of former president of India late Dr A P J Abdul Kalam. The aim of the programme is to instill discipline, awareness, leadership qualities and civic knowledge among the students.
