Students from this famous college develop ”Rescue Boat’ to rescue children trapped in a borewell

June 14:Even though it is mandatory for private firms to cap defunct borewells, many of these borewells are left open, and they continue to be deathtraps in rural India. Manual rescue operations are carried out when a child gets trapped inside the borewell.
Understanding the problems faced by authorities, the mechanical students of NMAM Institute of Technology, Nitte have come out with a ‘rescue robot’, to rescue children trapped in a borewell. Making use of Robotic technology, the students have come out with a rescue robot, which will help in the rescue operation using robotic technology.
It is a human controlled computerised safety system. The project is developed by Rupel Vellon, Roydon Mathias, Rishon Noel Saldanha and Rayan Altaf Kaji under the guidance of Assistant professor Krishnaprasad.
Rupel mentioned that DC and servo motors have been used in the rescue robot in addition to long-range CC camera, to locate the exact place of the trapped child, and also to know the environmental condition at the location. There are steel rods attached to instruments, which acts like legs and help in rescuing the child.
