Sudden Surge in Conjunctivitis/Red Eye Cases in Mangalore: DK District DHO Advises Caution
There is a sudden surge in conjunctivitis/red eye cases in Mangalore. As many as 504 cases of conjunctivitis have been reported in Dakshina Kannada district in which a few have recovered. It spreads through a virus or bacteria where eyes turn reddish and there will be watery discharge leading to irritation in the eyes. If the pain increases in the eye due to conjunctivitis, the same will spread to neck and head as well.

If the infection stays for a week or more, there are chances of the cornea getting effected. Hence, the DHO has told to avoid rubbing the eyes if there is irritation. The treatment is available in all hospitals and PHCs. One can consult the doctors if further treatment is needed.
