Surathkal Market Complex Likely to be Completed in Next Seven Months: Know More

The government in 2015-16, had approved the construction of the Surathkal market complex at an estimated cost of Rs 61 crore. MCC Commissioner Akshy Sridhar said that the project was approved at an estimated cost of Rs 61 crore in 2015-16, based on the PWD’s schedule rate. The project works came to a standstill in 2020 and only 28% of work has been completed.

Since there were price variations, and estimates were 10% more, and the project cost was more than Rs 50 crore, the proposal was sent to the government for approval. Since the prices of the materials increased by almost 18%, after examining the estimates, the government has decided that the market complex will be will be completed at an estimated cost of Rs 82 crore, for which the local body will have to take care of the additional expense.

Mangalore City North MLA Y Bharat Shetty said the project was delayed due to land issues, and the shifting of a UGD line. A fresh tender will be floated shortly, to complete the pending works. The market is likely to be made available for the public in another seven months.
