Swaccha Survey Campaign: Mangalore City Ranks 5th in The State & 146th in The Country

The results of Swaccha Sarvekshana Abhiyaan, conducted every year for local bodies by the Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry has been declared. Mangalore city is ranked fifth in Karnataka and 146th in the country.

Around 99 local bodies had participated in the competition of cities having a population ranging from one lac to 10 lac. Every city was evaluated for total points of 7500. In the survey that was conducted in 2018-19, the city bagged fifth place and was declared as the best city in the medium category that handles solid waste disposal in an excellent manner. However, after the Pacchanady garbage dump landslide disaster of 2019, the city suffered a major setback. In the 2019-20 survey, MCC did not take part. In the 2020-21 competition, the city bagged the ninth rank.
