Telecom operators should now obtain permission from these people before installing mobile phone tower

June 5: New Telecommunication Infrastructure Towers Regulations 2019 has been notified by the state government which mandates telecom operators to obtain permission from urban local and panchayati raj bodies before installing mobile phone towers across the state.
Minister U T Khader said that the government has taken a decision to introduce the regulation due to a large number of complaints from local people.
Telecom operators should now take permission from Commissioners of municipal corporations, municipal councils, town pancyats and panchayat development officers of gram panchayats before intalling a mobile tower. They will be the sanctioning authority to permit erect or re-erect telecommunication infrastructure towers (TIT) in their respective areas. The fee for installation of TITs in Bruhat Bengaluru Mahangara Palike (BBMP) will be Rs 1 lakh and Rs 50,000 in other city corporations in the state. The fee in city municipalities  will be Rs 35,000 Rs 25,000 in town municipal councils, whereas Rs 20,000 in town panchayats and Rs 15,000 in gram panchayats.
The permit will be issued by the sanctioning committee only of all criteria mentioned in the regulations are met. Minister Khader said that all operators have been given three months’ time to rectify and comply with the regulations for the existing telecommunication infrastructure towers.
