Third Umpire Will Soon be Appointed to Settle All Disputes Related to Kambala Races: This is The Reason

A ‘third umpire’ will be soon appointed to settle all disputes at Kambala buffalo race events in coastal districts, especially during events when the digital system fails to throw up a clear and undisputed winner.

A laser beam network system is being used for some years now which is placed near the finish line and captures the winning buffaloes. Once the beam goes green, the time taken by the player and his buffalo to run the distance would be displayed on a digital screen. However, in cliffhanger races which are not uncommon in the Kambala season, it’s difficult to predict a winner, forcing the District Kambala Samithi to stress on the practice of having a third umpire to settle any dispute on who is the winner.

The decision came in after the dispute at the recently held Mulki Kambala, since there were issues with the laser beam network system and objections were raised. An expert from the local Kambala committee along with a member of the district committee will be selected as the third umpire.
