This innovative Jackfruit soap was made by a Mangalorean

June 3: It is seen that in recent times, jackfruit lovers across India are working towards preserving jackfruit varieties. Many young entrepreneurs are experimenting with the by-products from jackfruit.
Aparna Harish, 31, hailing from Vittal near Mangalore, who is currently working in Chennai, passionate about soapmaking and cosmetics. She has so far prepared soaps from ubtan powder, red sandal, lavender extract, hibiscus, kewda, jasmine and charcoal.
Aparna said that she decided to make soap from jackfruit after Shree Padre, a global ambassador for jackfruits in India, encouraged her to think differently. She mentioned that she interacted with experts from the field on the benefits of jackfruits. As she understood the qualities of the fruit, she asked Theertakumar—an entrepreneur who supplies pre-packed jackfruits bulbs to supermarkets and malls in Bengalore to send jackfruits to Chennai.
Aparna said that she spend a year in reseach and learnt that jackfruit is good for skin care and can be used to make beauty packs, she started making jackfruit soaps. She currently sells the soaps under the brand name ‘Zue. Aparna also wants to experiment with jackfruit shampoo- if it suits the hair. Her next project is to launch jackfruit talcum powder.
She is also willing to guide people who want to take up jackfruit soap preparation as a commercial venture.
